Tiewyan Textiles
Welcome to Tiewyan Textiles where you will discover the beautiful fiber artistry of Bev Thoms. Bev specializes in the ancient art of felting, acquiring her wool from the 60-acre sheep farm where she lives with her husband in Dickerson, Maryland. She designs and creates unique textiles to wear, for home use, and display. Bev welcomes visitors by appointment. A brief sampling of Bev’s art is displayed below.
What is the origin of “Tiewyan?”
The name “Tiewyan” is a somewhat incorrect English derivation of a Gaelic word which means ‘homestead of Williams’. “Tie” for homestead and “Wyan” for Williams. We chose it when we bought our farm in 1974 to honor my husband’s family farm history in Wales. It is pronounced “tee- wee-an.” It is the name of our farm, the name of my business: Tiewyan Textiles, and the name of the collective that I curate for the Countryside Artisans Gallery Tour: Tiewyan Artisans.
